I'm walkin' on sunshine...

...and really feels good... Why it wouldn't? With few stops of the tram it seems like you've been transported to a totally different city. Getting off at Edem gives you a chance to start you fabulous walk with an amazingly cold beer in one of the best bars on the Athenian map: Skipper. With its sailor simplicity it offers you tables at the pier just by your boat ( if you have one!). You need only few minutes to start seeing why this place is so popular among Greeks. Cheap and very laid back, two main characteristics of the place bring on the weekend afternoons hundreds of people that are running away from the smog of the city.

Then there's another amazing thing about this place: boats, simply everywhere. The Marina is one of many in Athens but still covers place for thousands of  boats and yachts, which in reality are more like ships than boats! But hey, it's crisis so maybe some of them have shrunk! Still, the view is quite amazing!

When you leave the Marina's area it's enough to follow the beach and the sun! The pedestrian path, full of people just enjoying the afternoon as you do, sometimes maybe crazy cyclists speeding around, you can lead you straight to another marina: Flisvos (with more huge yachts, food and people). This time the breathtaking view of the sea against the orange sky had to be enough, till the next weekend. Decided that the steaks and some other delicattessen at home can't wait!

Yes, it is a Jaguar parked between the palm trees! And no, it is not 1960's!

Greener than green!

"It remains in my memory like no other park I have known. It is the quintessence of a park, the thing one feels sometimes in looking at a canvas or dreaming of a place one would like to be in and never finds" wrote Henry Miller in 1939. My words exactly. When walking around the gardens on today's very sunny day I was feeling like I'm tasting better side of Athens. Place, sometimes called" Lungs of the city" gives you a feeling  like nothing outside of its walls matters, not even garbage men on strike.

Massive, Washingtonia filifera palms growing in the gardens. The tree is native to California and it was imported from there. Can leave up to 250 years!

Narrow and shaded pathways have a combined total length of 7.5 km.

And you can never get lost...

Little here - more there aka garbage men on strike!

That isn't something probably worth mentioning but I find it amusing that citizens of this wonderful city can actually trash it so badly. So since Monday garbage men decided to go on strike with demands concerning the cuts of their wages. I truly understand their need to fight for what they are working so hard every day but c'mon, you cannot destroy that image of your own city, let all people coming here to think that this cradle of civilisation is just a memory... So, for the past few days garbage's been piling up and I'm assuming that besides me thousands of tourists were able to witness this "wonderful scenery"...

Strangely enough the sign says " Clean Athens"...my oh,my...

Strikes on November 5th and 6th

For those visiting Athens on the  5th and the 6th of November I've got bad news - another lovely strike of the public transport is taking place - only buses will work! But it's still not enough - taxi drivers decided to get some quality relaxation time so they won't work either:) Have fun! More on  http://www.apergia.gr/

doesn't it??:)

Eternity at Sea...

...That if I would,
I would stand immortally at sea,
Hoping for eternity at sea.
Wondered covered sea
I would bless the shore
And leave to be at once more.
Out at sea to sail
And stand upon a ship and sway
Listen to the creak of the wood, and say
To close my eyes is to be at sea
Dream that lasts eternity
Eternity, guaranteed, to live
Would one day be eternity
I would spend it out at sea....(Anne Cordelia Adams)
